How Long You Are Without the Door
A single-panel swap on a door that still tracks straight is usually a same-visit fix once we have the right panel in hand. Where it slows down is matching an exact profile - doors from the 1984 era of construction here often used steel sectional panels in builder-grade widths that aren't the current standard stock size, so if the match isn't exact off the shelf, we're waiting on a special order before we can finish. We'll tell you on site which situation you're in rather than guess over the phone.
What Is on the Truck
We carry common steel sectional panel sizes and the fasteners, hinges, and end caps that go with them, plus the rollers and hinge hardware that tend to fail alongside a damaged panel on an older track system. What we don't carry is every historic panel profile - Thousand Parms' housing stock went up mostly in the 1980s and 90s, and some of those original flush-steel panels were replaced by manufacturers' catalogs that have since changed their panel widths and seam spacing. If your door needs an exact match to a discontinued style, that's a special order, not a same-day part.
What You Are Seeing
On a door from this era, panel damage usually shows up as a crease across one section - a backed-into panel, a dropped basketball dent, or a corner that's caved from a ladder or trash can hitting it at an angle. You might also see a hinge pulling away from the panel face, which looks like a crack but is really the steel fatiguing around the screw holes after years of heat cycling. If the bottom panel is the one damaged, check for rust streaks or warping at the weather seal - standing irrigation water near a garage slab speeds that up.
How We Fix It
If the panel matches current stock, we swap it in place without pulling the whole door apart, reusing the existing track and opener since those rarely need touching for a single-panel job. If it's an older or non-standard profile from Thousand Palms' 1980s housing stock, we'll quote you both the special-order panel and, honestly, the cost of replacing the full door - on some of these older doors, once you account for a one-off panel order, a new door isn't far off in price. We'll give you both numbers before you decide, not after.
