How Long You Are Without the Door
A straight swap on an opening that's standard size and square usually gets your garage closed up again the same day we start. Custom widths, insulated panel doors, or anything where the old track and header need rework take longer, because parts for non-standard sizes don't sit on the truck - they get ordered. We'll tell you which category you're in at the walkthrough, not after we've pulled the old door off. We don't leave an opening uncovered overnight without talking to you about it first.
What Is on the Truck
We stock standard-width steel doors, common spring sizes, and the openers most households around here actually choose, plus the track and hardware for a clean swap. What we don't carry standing inventory for: oversized custom openings, specialty finishes, and insulated doors rated for the higher end of local summer heat loads - those get special-ordered once we've confirmed the exact spec at your place. Given how hot it runs here, we push insulated panel doors and openers rated for sustained heat over the base models, since a door skin that warps in full sun costs you twice.
What You Are Seeing
If you're calling about installation rather than repair, it's usually one of three things: the door is original to the house and visibly sagging or dented, the opener is the old chain-drive type that's gotten loud and unreliable, or you're renovating and the garage door hasn't been touched since. Heat-related warping shows up as a door that binds partway through its travel, especially in the afternoon once the metal's expanded. None of that is a quick fix - at that age, you're looking at replacement, not a spring swap or a sensor reset.
How We Fix It
We pull the old door, track, and opener as a set rather than trying to mix a new door onto 1984-era hardware - the mounting points and spring sizing usually don't match current standard parts anyway. New installs get a heat-rated insulated door, properly sized torsion springs for the panel weight, and an opener with battery backup and rolling-code security. One honest limitation: if your opening is a non-standard size, which turns up more often in this older stock than in newer tracts, we have to special-order the door, and that can add a week or more to the job. We'll tell you up front if that's your situation so you're not waiting on a surprise.
